WAG – Women’s Artistic Gymnastics – This is gymnastics for females using the “classic” apparatus of floor, bars, beam and vault. Participants develop strength and power, along with flexibility, confidence and grace.
Gymnasts work to learn and perfect the routines and skills set out by Gymnastics Australia in the Australian Levels programme. In our WAG competitive stream, class numbers are limited and strictly by invitation only. WAG gymnasts train between 2 and 4 times each week in order to build and maintain their strength and skills.
Classes are generally grouped by ages but although these age groups are in place, progression from one class to another is primarily driven by individual maturity and skill level. It is not unusual for gymnasts to either remain in a lower level for periods of time while their skills develop, nor if students are accelerated if they are physically advanced. Participants in these classes will have opportunities to show off their achievements to parents at various competitive events throughout the year.
JGC this year is introducing the new boys only Gymnastics Australia programme of MAG 4X4. Using 4 of the 6 apparatus MAG currently use, classes are designed around having fun whilst learning and are grouped to skill ability and age. The new format will allow an easier transition to more difficult skills and drills and offers the opportunity for boys to develop and improve on their strength and flexibility in a circuit based programme with friendly and fully qualified coaches. Classes are available in this programme for boys of prep age and above.
